In spite of the claims by some misguided Lab owners, this picture clearly shows why Goldens rule. What other dog is so beautiful, friendly, and loyal as this big old boy?I know that owners of other breeds love their puppies and think they're the best, and that's OK. Just remember that when it comes down to a vote, only owners of Goldens can truly and objectively state, without reservation, that their pooch is definitely "Numero Uno"!!!
PS Cardinal's Superstar Albert Pujols is the proud owner of a Golden. Maybe that's the secret to his success: He's so happy that he can't help but succeed!

My husband has been waiting years for another "sister" or "brother"! When is he going to get one???
Probably before the month is over. I have a week's vacation July 17-21, and we're pretty set to use that time to bring home the newest addition.

What do you mean "misguided Lab owners" If you check the records, the Labrador Retriever has been listed as the number dog for the past few years. Former Cardinals Catcher Mike Mattheny had a lab, and I think current catcher Yadier Molina has a lab! Labs rule, goldens drool! That is a cute pic tho.
You are correct. According to the American Kennel Club, the Labrador Retriever is rated as the most popular breed in the United States. However, Goldens are number two and prized for their athleticism, loving disposition, and willingness to learn. In fact, according to the AKC, Goldens have won more than their share of National Obedience Championships since the award was created in 1977, including 3 consecutive top scores in the annual judging! Goldens are in demand as guide and helper dogs, search and rescue team members, and family pets.
By the way, all dogs drool, but some, like St Bernards and Newfoundlands, drool a LOT. Never, ever, stand near a Bernard or Newfie when he shakes his head unless you want a slobber shower!
Say Hi! to Loki. I wasn't trying to knock Labs. I was just defending my favorite breed. Mrs MercMan and I hope to get a golden puppy very soon to replace the 4-legged friend we lost some years back.
Goldens are very cool. Our neighbor has one, Morgan, and she is such a sweetheart. She is very well trained. I love labs tho, and we had 13 and a half wonderful years with Shadow. We are looking forward to the years we get to spend with Loki in our lives. We were blessed when Shadow entered our lives, and blessed again when Loki became a part of the family. I am a fan of big dogs...one of the reasons I love labs. I would have to say my top three dogs are 1) Labrador Retriever (of course), 2) German Shepherd b/c they can do amazing things when trained right, and 3) Golden Retrievers b/c they are so friendly, not to mention cute! Loki says Hi back, in b/t her running around causing chaos!
